Sparky's Coney Island System (East Providence, RI)

If you're looking for the real Coney experience, you absolutely must try Sparky's. Located on Taunton Avenue in East Providence, this unassuming storefront carries a rough patina that will both mystify and delight your dining sensibilities.

Rhode Island restaurants are able to serve wieners which are unfortunately not allowed on the Massachusetts food market. The essential difference between a hot dog and wiener is that a wiener comes in a longer casing--oftentimes several feet long. Hot dogs, however, come precut in their individual casings. Wieners also tend to have a rougher and smokier texture. When heated, they soften and reveal a depth not found in your typical Ball Park or Oscar Meyer hot dog. Top it off with some Coney sauce and celery salt and joy will enter your palate!

The Final Word: 5 Stars
